Losing weight is supposed to make you look and feel great and, usually, it does. Unfortunately, for some too much of a good thing can become a bad thing as their fat loss results in saggy skin that is uncomfortable and impossible to rectify without surgery. Whether drastic weight loss is the result of a healthier lifestyle or bariatric surgery (gastric sleeve), the men and women of New Orleans have discovered that a body lift can significantly improve their quality of life.
A circumferential body lift removes excess skin from three areas – the abdomen, thighs and buttocks. Additionally, the abdominal muscles are tightened restoring core support. With the removal of sagging skin, a body lift can also eliminate the moisture that develops between the folds of skin, which can result in a painful irritation and infection. Due to the complexity of this type of plastic surgery, other procedures are not typically performed along with a body lift. Later, though, many patients opt for a face lift, arm lift, breast lift , bra lift, or medial thigh lift.
During your initial consultation in our Mandeville office, you can talk with Dr. Cooper about the changes you hope to achieve with plastic surgery, and she will work with you to determine the approaches to best accomplish your cosmetic surgery goals. Often in weight loss patients this means prioritizing the areas to be fixed and in what order to accomplish this with the least amount of operating room time. Dr. Cooper likes to schedule an entire hour to meet to discuss these plans and formulate your surgical journey. As always, Dr. Cooper and her staff offer a friendly, unhurried atmosphere, with all the information you will need to make educated decisions about a contouring body lift.
Dr. Cooper will ask you about the physical changes you desire, discuss incision length and location, as well as the risks and benefits associated with a body lift. With this information, you and Dr. Cooper will be able to determine the procedural strategies that will best meet your expectations. While every surgical skin excision requires a scar, all efforts are made to keep the scars as hidden as possible.
Two weeks prior to your surgery, you will meet with Dr. Cooper’s staff to discuss all preoperative and postoperative instructions, and to confirm the procedural plans previously discussed.
A body lift is a serious procedure requiring Dr. Cooper considers the effects on the entire body, and the time required for surgical repair, occasionally a second surgeon is used at no cost to the patient to ensure a timely surgical exit from the operating arena. Therefore, the 3-5 hour procedure is performed at an outpatient hospital or overnight facility depending on your personal health needs. A family member or friend will need to drive you home and provide assistance during the first 48 to 72 hours. You and your caregiver will both be provided with Dr. Cooper’s cell phone number for any concerns or questions. Expect to miss at least 2 weeks of work and return to full normal activity, like working out, will be at least 4 weeks out.
